My doctor Dr.Balakumari handed me a pamphlet of Utsav and asked me to attend if interested. I am very thankful to her and Amba for giving me such a wonderful experience.
Her sessions are divided into 3, in fact 4 and I would advise everyone to attend all the sessions to take full benefit.
Exercise sessions - This was divided into two sessions.
Amba taught all the exercises and made us do it at least 5 times. You’ll see the effect on your body next day ;)… Really helpful throughout your pregnancy in all trimesters. She also explained the reason behind exercising and how each exercise works on your body and mind. Being an IT person, I need to sit in front of the computer for hours together. The exercises made me come out of the back pain which I developed in the first trimester of my pregnancy. Few hospitals do have such classes but her classes are one of a kind and really helpful compared to the hospital sessions. The diet which she gives along with some recipes and where to buy etc were of great help to me. I hate fruits and I prefer to consume it as juice, yes I am a bit lazy.. But after attending her class I started to follow the diet as much as possible. And it was tough only for a week. Its good not only for pregnancy, it should also be adapted as a lifestyle.
The second time you walk in is for the handout of the exercise. Although I know it by heart now, I still prefer seeing it once and then work out. The handout is crisp and the pictures are good enough even if you lose track. She also helps in choosing the correct size for your inners and how to measure which is awesome!
Nurture class - It gave me more confidence on how to handle a new born. Now I am prepared to handle baby like bathing, massaging, feeding. I’ve heard a lot from my friends saying they’ve stopped breast feeding in a week’s time for various reasons. So I was always skeptical about the whole concept. This class cleared my mind. The benefits of breastfeeding, diet to take, the videos, signs to see if baby is hungry etc were very informative. Now I am very positive that I can do it! One statement she said which is stuck to my mind- Will you go feed a calf? If not, then why would you give cow’s milk to your baby?
Labour Class –Although I attended the one conducted in the hospital, I chose not to skip her session and I thank my brains for it. The breathing techniques, immediate skin to skin contact, what is normal and C section were all taught. Fear of how a contraction would be and all my “what if” questions were answered. We also learn that it’s not like how the media shows and a woman’s body is made such that they can deliver. Her tips on donut pillow with bedspread and baby carrier made with a saree etc was great. She also shows what a labour partner can expect. So do take your husband along if he is allowed to be with you in labour. The mail containing hospital list and other useful links are very impressive. Thanks for everything and I would surely refer a lot of my friends
All her sessions are reasonably priced and for the amount we spend elsewhere, this is surely an investment which is worth it!
